Season One
The First Chapter
Start the Journey Here

We’re absolutely thrilled and incredibly proud to announce that the first season of our passion project, Deafies in Wonderland, is complete and now available entirely online, completely free! Fifteen diverse episodes are waiting for you to explore, ranging from film trailers and creative commercials to parodies of series and talk shows, and even some completely original, spontaneous episodes. We’ve poured our hearts and souls into this season.

Making Deafies in Wonderland as accessible as possible was paramount for us. That’s why we’ve subtitled every episode in both German and English. We also use text-to-voice software to provide an audio track, catering to those who don’t yet understand Austrian Sign Language. The spoken language in this first season is English. We recognize that the audio quality isn’t always perfect and that the synthetic voice might take some getting used to.

We’ve received varied feedback from hearing viewers, from positive to less so. However, offering this option was crucial for us because, for us, inclusivity is everything!

As a visually-focused, zero-budget podcast, we are creative when it comes to realizing our ideas, but we do face some limitations. Of course, we’d love to have ‚real‘ voices, but we’re committed to maintaining our autonomy in the production process.

We believe that the creative spirit and diversity of content within Deafies in Wonderland speak for themselves.

We warmly invite you to immerse yourselves in our world, laugh, marvel, and perhaps even reflect a little. So, what are you waiting for?

BINGE-TIME! Playliste-Marathon zum Erleben.

Our debut episode of Deafies in Wonderland dives straight into the heart of inspiration. This deaf singer-songwriter isn’t just making beautiful music, she’s changing lives. We’ll be exploring her story, her methods, and, honestly, just being blown away by her talent. It’s a journey into artistry and resilience you won’t want to miss.

This time, we’re diving headfirst into the emotional rollercoaster that is ‚In a Heartbeat.‘ Join us as we unpack this beautifully poignant animated short with a reaction video that’s both heartfelt and insightful. Prepare for some big feels and even bigger discussions as we explore representation, storytelling, and the power of animation.

Okay, everyone, let’s be real – who wasn’t hooked on ‚Charmed‘ back in ’98? That WB magic, the sisterly bond, the whole witchy vibe… it was iconic. Fast forward 20 years, and we’ve got a reboot brewing. Now, I know, reboots can be dicey, right? But the first trailer’s dropped, and honestly, We’re cautiously optimistic. Is this going to capture that original spark or is it a whole different beast? We’re dissecting every frame, every spell, and trying to figure out if this revival lives up to its legacy. We’re breaking down that trailer and what it could mean for the show. Has the magic been lost or is it just upgraded?

Imagine waking up toa universe that mirrors your own Sign language. A world where the visual language becomes universal. It’s about moving beyond feeling like a child relying on crude gestures, to inhabiting a space where shared sign language eliminates all barriers. This episode delves into that vision: a world designed for full inclusion, not awkward accommodations for deaf people.

What happens when nostalgia meets modern creativity? In this episode, Fionna and Alexander bring a unique twist, translating the story into spoken language with their signature charm. Don’t worry—when the vintage 8mm black-and-white aesthetic takes over your screen, it’s just part of the magic. As the video evolves, the classic look gives way to vivid storytelling. Get ready for a ride through time and innovation!

A Broadway musical that breaks boundaries: hearing performers join forces with deaf actors to bring Spring Awakening to life in an entirely new way. What makes this production so special is its ability to build bridges through collaboration while weaving the historical context of Deaf culture, such as the Milan Congress, seamlessly into the story. A powerful masterpiece full of depth and connection!

So far, we haven’t discovered a sign name for Mandy Harvey. In the pilot episode of Deafies in Wonderland, Noah shared how he wished Mandy had incorporated American Sign Language into her performance, adding a unique cultural connection. But here’s the big question: has his wish been heard—or better yet, seen? In this episode, we dive deeper to explore whether Mandy made that heartfelt connection. Stay tuned!

This is dark history. ‚Black speech therapy’ wasn’t just for stutters – these methods were also applied to the deaf. We expose the harsh reality in our new episode. Don’t miss it.

This week, we dive into a deeply disturbing case of abuse within a church, specifically targeting deaf children under the care of its staff. Nikole brilliantly navigates the complex and sensitive topic in Austrian Sign Language (ÖGS), maintaining composure even when confronting the priest’s shocking misunderstanding of repentance. Noah was frankly relieved to not be the one leading this particular discussion, especially when grappling with such a profoundly upsetting scenario. Join us as we unravel this episode, where the lines between faith and exploitation blur, and justice seems to struggle to find its voice. It’s a tough but essential watching.

Imagine a life silenced by two profound challenges: deafness and the terror of Nazi persecution. This is the story of Ingelore, a Jewish woman whose extraordinary journey takes centre stage in our upcoming documentary. Our trailer offers a glimpse into her harrowing escape to America, a flight for survival against unthinkable odds. We’ll be peeling back the layers of her experiences, revealing not only the horrors she faced but also the remarkable strength that carried her through. Join us as we share a story of resilience, a testament to the human spirit, and a reminder that even in the darkest of times, hope can find a way to be seen.

This episode marks a bit of a departure from our usual format. We’re ditching the ‚to-do list‘ and instead diving headfirst into the creative process. We explore the intriguing world of art, dissect Noah’s unique website, and generally let our thoughts meander where they may. It’s a more laid-back vibe, like hanging out with friends and letting the conversation unfold naturally. And, because no decent hangout is complete without a bit of friendly competition, we wrapped things up with a blast of mobile Mario Kart. It’s less structured, more spontaneous, and a glimpse behind the podcast curtain.

Queer Eye is back with a brand new season, and we couldn’t resist diving into all things fabulous, especially with Vienna Pride in full swing. We’re taking a lil’ sidetrip into this world of self discovery. Our very own Noah’s actually got some firsthand experience from his time in Philly, dropping some knowledge about the show which we find truly intriguing. So join us for this episode where we dissect the show, unpack the feels, and maybe even find some inspiration ourselves. It’s going to be a juicy one, you don’t want to miss it!

Imagine settling in to watch a cooking show – a delicious roast pork is on the menu. The chef is doing a brilliant job, everything looks perfect. But the subtitles? They’ve clearly got a mind of their own. Words are missing, sentences are incomplete, and suddenly ’salt‘ becomes ’sand‘. Amusing at first, sure, but pretty frustrating in the long run. After all, people always say, „There are subtitles!“ Today, we’re showing you what it’s really like when the subtitles are more of a guessing game. Enjoy, and good luck trying to follow along!

This episode promises to be a real game-changer. We meet Lariffa, who is linked to Noah in a way that may surprise you. But that’s merely the tip of the iceberg. We delve into a secret that redefines the entire narrative surrounding the worldwide phenomenon that is „Handsome Woman“. What truths have been hidden? And what does this revelation mean for the film’s legacy? Prepare yourself, this one’s a rollercoaster!

The season finale faced delays, mirroring how COVID impacted Nikole, Noah, and the world.
Du sollst hören,‘ (‚You shall hear‚) features deaf actors, tackling a raw story: a hearing-impaired couple fighting social services who want their deaf child to have a cochlear implant. Why? A ZDF production diving deep into a parent’s right and choice, the episode poses tough questions about medical norms and societal views on deafness. Join us as we unpack this powerful and moving narrative, exploring the ethical tightrope between care and coercion.
